LaRue
Heaven gained a very special Mother and Nana! Sadie Alma (Joost) LaRue, 87, of Boerne (formerly of La Grange), passed away peacefully with her grandson and daughter by her side on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, under the special care of hospice.
Sadie was born in Rabbs Prairie, on April 12, 1936, the daughter of Emil August Joost and Alma (Hentschel) Joost. She grew up in West Point, graduated from La Grange High School and moved to Houston shortly after. While working for a law office in Houston, she met a handsome fella that she later married; Jimmie (Jim) Wayne LaRue on Jan. 2, 1961, in Columbus. Together they traveled the world while Jim was in the military and you would often hear stories Sadie told about their time in Cuba. During one of the evacuations, Sadie was put on a ship and while she sailed the high seas to safety, Jim did a few flyovers to tell her he loved her. Even during their time in Cuba, she made many friends that she kept in touch with over the years. Once out of the military lifestyle, she did more traveling with Jim while he drove a truck, and this is when they ended up back in Houston.
While in Houston, Sadie was blessed to have one child, Tammy. Tammy was her world and once again she found herself taking many road trips with her “mini-me” to go visit Jim while he worked offshore for Brown & Root. Sadie worked as a secretary in mortgage and banking for almost 50 years, starting her career with Couch Mortgage in Houston and continuing her profession with Capital Farm Credit in La Grange with a few other jobs in between.
Little did Sadie know that love could be even stronger when her one and only very special grandchild, Colton, came along. Her entire world changed and she loved to spoil Colton. They had a special bond unlike anything else which was so very special to see.
Sadie never knew a stranger and obviously her family was at the top of her priority list. She was an avid animal lover and ALWAYS loved and spoiled the dogs they had. She had a special love for any baby animal but especially deer, cows, chickens and puppy dogs. She loved her flowers and enjoyed cooking but also loved sitting on the swing watching the hummingbirds, and purple martin birds.
Sadie was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in West Point.
She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Srubar, of Boerne; one grandchild, Colton Srubar and special girlfriend Kendall Grobe, of Kingsland; special nephew Bruce Heinrich and Michelle of Plum; Brian Heinrich and Eric of Houston; niece Loretta Churchill of Cypress; great nephews and nieces: Ethan, Blane, Coy and Becca Heinrich of Plum; along with Jina Karagiannis and husband Niko of Cypress; Eric Mica and Jessica of Houston and numerous second great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim LaRue; two sisters: Katherine Heinrich and husband, Johnnie; Helen Churchill and husband, Reg; and brother, August Joost.
