Lange
Funeral services for Emmit Lange, 91 of Waldeck, Texas, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waldeck with Rev. David Tinker officiating. Burial followed in the Waldeck Cemetery.
Emmit Monroe Lange was born on July 7, 1931 at the family home in Waldeck. He was baptized on Aug. 9, 1931 at Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waldeck by Rev. Carl Baer and also confirmed at Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sept. 8, 1946 by Rev. Leo H. Simon. On Sept. 9, 1953, he joined the US Army and was discharged on Aug. 3, 1955. Emmit was united in marriage to Janie Angeline Ruether on April 5, 1959 in Waldeck. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher in the Waldeck area. He worked for Brands Brangus Ranch for 47 years from which his love of black Brangus cattle developed. He took great pride in the black Brangus cattle that he raised. Emmit will be remembered as being hardworking and tough.
He passed away the morning of Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Care Inn of La Grange.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Tillie Lange; his wife of nearly 60 years, Janie Lange; his sonin- law, Joel Valdez; three sisters, Vadie Nietsche, Cedall Baack, and Burdella Mertz; one brother, Kermit Lange, and his parents-in-law, Jerome and Angeline Ruether.
Emmit is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Valdez of Rockport and Valerie Meinke and her husband, Dean of Waldeck; six grandchildren, Dustin Miertschin and his wife, Misty of Winchester, Weston Miertschin and his wife, Ashley of Giddings, Dillon Miertschin of Waldeck, Catherine Velasquez and her husband, Gabriel of Nechanitz, Colton Meinke and his wife, Alyssa of Nechanitz, and Cari Harper and her husband, Britt of Waldeck; five great grandchildren, Bryce Miertschin of Winchester, Shelby Miertschin of Winchester, Hailey Miertschin of Bastrop, Kennedy Velasquez of Nechanitz, and Hadley Harper of Waldeck; three great, great grandchildren, Kamrie Miertschin of Winchester, Nova Cross of Bastrop, and Gracelynn Cross of Bastrop; one brother- in-law, Reimund Mertz of La Grange, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dustin Miertschin, Weston Miertschin, Dillon Miertschin, Colton Meinke, Gabriel Velasquez and Britt Harper. Honorary pallbearer was Bryce Miertschin.
In lieu of flowers, the Lange family recommends making memorial contributions to the Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church Improvement Fund, Hospice Brazos Valley, or the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
