Kulhanek
Michael Charles Kulhanek, known affectionately as Mike by his friends and family, left this world on May 31, at the age of 78, in his home in Mullins Prairie, Texas. Born on September 11, 1946, in La Grange, Texas, Mike was a man of humor, intelligence, and an analytical mind that served him well throughout his life.
Mike graduated from La Grange High School in 1964, having been an active and well-liked member of his class. His thirst for knowledge and passion for business led him to further his education at Blinn College, before moving on to Southwest Texas (Texas State) University, where he graduated with a degree in business.
He was a lifelong learner, always seeking to understand the world better and to apply his knowledge in practical ways. In 1979, Mike’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Mico Machine Company. His dedication and business acumen were the driving forces behind his company’s success, and his leadership style was marked by fairness and a sharp wit that could defuse. He was respected in his field and was known for his ability to solve complex problems with ease and grace.
Mike served as president of the local Little League organization for several years. He also served on the Board of Directors for La Grange State Bank\\State Bank for many years.
Mike’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. In particular, being a pilot and flying his own plane. He was an avid golfer, relishing the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of his fellow players. A skilled pool player, he was often found leaning over the billiards table, lining up his next shot with precision. Bird hunting was another of Mike’s pursuits, one that allowed him to enjoy the great outdoors and the company of good friends. However, his happiest moments were spent on his farm, a place of peace and solitude that he cherished deeply. Above all, the special time he spent with his grandson, Milam, was the source of immeasurable joy and pride.
Mike’s legacy is carried on by his loving family: his son, Casey Kulhanek; his adored grandson, Milam Kulhanek; his sister, Jana Kulhanek; his brother, Chad (Susan) Kulhanek; his niece, Katie (Kyle) Janda; his nephew, Adam (Kim) Kulhanek; and the numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends who were all touched by his vibrant spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Bernice Kulhanek, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity that he carried throughout his life.
Those who knew Mike will remember him for his quick wit, which could always elicit laughter and lighten any mood. His intelligence was not just academic but also deeply practical, enabling him to navigate life’s challenges with skill and ease. His analytical mind was a gift that he used not only in his career but also in understanding the complexities of life and in helping others.
Michael Charles Kulhanek’s journey through life was marked by the joy he found in simple pleasures, the love he had for his family, and the positive impact he made on those around him. As we bid farewell to Mike, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with laughter, wisdom, and an abundance of love. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in the days to come.
