With heavy hearts, the La Grange community bids farewell to the one-of-a-kind soul, Andrew “Andy” Lawrence Kruppa, who gracefully danced through life barefoot and cast a line of joy into the hearts of all who knew him. He was born on Sept. 5, 1949 in La Grange to Edwin George Kruppa and Cecilia Barbara (Kallus) Kruppa.

Andy was born to a farming family, attended a rural two-room schoolhouse in Hostyn, and ultimately graduated from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg.

After graduation he set sail into the next chapter of his life with the United States Navy. Andy’s journey led him to explore the far reaches of the globe and embrace the opportunity to travel the world. From distant shores to foreign skies, he carried the La Grange spirit with him, through camaraderie synonymous with his Texas roots and continued communication with his Navy buddies.

After his distinguished naval service, Andy briefly called Houston home, adding a touch of city life to his tapestry of experiences. This is where he became a very talented and sought-after welder. Yet, his heart always gravitated back to La Grange where he spent the majority of his life.

Andy painted vibrant strokes with his love for fishing, softball, and the unbridled joy of gathering with friends at the local honkytonks. He transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. Whether he was reeling in a big catch, knocking it out of the park on the softball field, or kicking back with friends at the honkytonk, his voice and laughter echoed throughout Fayette County.

Among the many memories cherished by those who knew Andy, none stand out quite like the image of him navigating through life’s events without shoes. Being barefoot was a whimsical emblem of his carefree spirit, his symbolic trademark.

A true patriot, Andy upheld his religious beliefs and contributed to his community throughout his life. He was a member of the VFW where he served as Commander, a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He will forever be remembered for his contributions to the community and military service that he held dear.

He is survived by his daughter, Misty Kruppa of Houston; brothers: Joe Kruppa; Edward Kruppa and wife, Helen, both of La Grange; and Marcus Kruppa and wife, Terri of Lake Jackson; sisters: sister, Rose Kruppa of San Antonio; Theresa Roberts and husband, Len of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Rita Dickson of Fort Worth; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
