Delton Roy Koenning, 83, of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.

Delton, known affectionately as “Butch” by his friends and family, was born on Dec. 10, 1939 in Winchester, to Willie and Hermine (Mitschke) Koenning. He was baptized at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester on Dec. 17, 1939, by Pastor E. K. Rathgeber. He was later confirmed by Pastor Walter Streicher on April 11, 1954 at St. Michael’s. His confirmation verse was John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Delton graduated from La Grange High School in 1958 and shortly after moved to Houston. On June 3, 1960, he married Elna Marie (Farrack). Together, they established their home in Jersey Village and welcomed two children, Kenneth James and Diana Lynn. He and his family were devoted members of Epiphany Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder, Chairman of the Board of Missions, and a member of the choir.

Delton dedicated 48 years of his life to the Auto Parts business, even starting his own business, KL Inventory. His success in his job awarded him trips all over the world. Together, Delton and Elna visited over 15 countries from Germany to Australia. Outside of work, Delton was an avid hunter. He enjoyed many deer seasons in Fredericksburg and always looked forward to the late winter weekend when his family would come together for sausage-making. In 2014, after retirement, Delton settled in Winchester where he enjoyed more time in the country with his cattle and his farm land.

Delton leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Elna Marie (Farrack) Koenning; his son, Kenneth Koenning of Winchester; his daughter, Diana Stevens and husband, Troy of La Grange; his five grandchildren, Justin Koenning and wife, Rebekah of Winchester, Austin Demny and wife, Lindsay of Athens (Ala.), Jessica Demny and husband, Raghu Thammineni of Spicewood, Jacob Koenning and wife Ashley of Rockport, and Madelynn Stevens of College Station; his two greatgrandchildren, Eliza Demny and Grant Demny; his sisters, Gladys Teinert of La Grange and Mildred Kasper of Winchester, and his sister-in-law Audrey Koenning of Winchester; his caretaker, Alijah Grant of La Grange and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Delton is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Hermine “Minnie” Koenning; his brothers, Milton Koenning, Hugo Koenning, and Larry Koenning; his sister, Rose Bernstein; his brothers-in-law, Paul Teinert, Elgin Kasper and Wernis Bernstein, and his daughter-in-law, Christi Koenning.
