Barbara Jean (Pirkle) Klein, 87, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025.

Barbara was born in Gonzales on Dec. 17, 1937, the daughter of Thomas and Grace (Hahn) Pirkle. She married Virgil August Klein on May 25, 1957, in Gatesville.

She worked as a Clerk and Customer Service Representative for General Telephone and retired after several decades of service with the company.

Barbara was active throughout her life with a number of organizations. She was very active in all of her children’s activities. She was a volunteer leader of the youth group at Travis Street United Methodist Church and was always busy helping with the activities of the local Boy Scout troop while her husband was the Scoutmaster. She was a loyal and faithful member of Travis Street and First United Methodist Churches and was very active in the ladies groups, the adult choir, and the Ladies Sunday School Class. After retirement from GTE, she was also very active for a number of years with Deputy Santa and Second Chance Emporium.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Basquette of Pecos; two sons: Samuel Klein of Kempner, and David Klein (Inna) of Corpus Christi; three brothers: Thomas Pirkle, Jr. (Shirley), Leslie Pirkle (Ginger) both of Gonzales, and Gary Pirkle (Janet) of Angleton; sister-in-law, Frances Meinen of Temple; nine grandchildren: Danny Klein, CJ Klein, Brandi Weiand, Tim Klein (Stephanie), Maggie Klein, Colin Basquette, Emily Gaither (Matthew), Alex Klein and Bella Rogoff; two great grandchildren Trevor Klein and Luka Klein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Klein who passed away on Nov. 20, 2003; daughterin- law Lynn Klein; and five siblings.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, from 3-7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations.

Funeral Services will be held at New Life Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden, La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
