Thelma Kieschnik was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Winchester to Paul and Alvina (Nakunz) Noack. Thelma was raised on a dairy farm on the Colorado River just outside of Winchester where she lived with her parents and her eight sisters. They were a close-knit family and she had a close relationship with all of her sisters but especially with her identical twin sister Wilma. She and Wilma spent much time together, even dressing identically into adulthood.
Thelma was baptized on Jan. 19, 1930. She was later confirmed on April 18, 1943 with her confirmation verse being 1st Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of the faith” and “take hold of eternal life”. She married the love of her life Walter Kieschnik on Nov. 7, 1948 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Sherell, Kathleen and Carol. She enjoyed her job as a Medical Assistant. She had a variety of hobbies such as sewing and taking care of her neighbors, and spending time with friends. She loved flowers and plants and maintained a large beautiful yard on her own even after she turned eighty. She enjoyed spending time with her family, inviting everyone over for Sunday lunch and holidays to enjoy her delicious home made noodles, pies, cakes and cinnamon rolls. She was also part of a few organizations, LMML, Home Demonstration Club, was part of the St. Michael’s Choir and taught Sunday school. She was always willing to bake and donate a cake for any fund raising auctions. She also helped with the Wendish Festival and participated in the Fayette County Fair, winning prizes for her pecan pies.
