Kallus
Joseph Richard Kallus, 92, of West Point, entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026.
Joe was born in Flatonia on March 22, 1933, the son of the late Joseph Emil and Agnes Vera (Vaclavik) Kallus.
He served his country honorable for two years in the United States Army.
Joe married Rita Krejci on May 1, 1954, in Houston. The couple was blessed with six children: James, Jerry, Richard, Cindy, Gary, and Anna.
He was a dedicated employee for Ethyl Corporation as a sheet metal worker for forty years.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of La Grange. He enjoyed attending mass and took time out of each day to pray the Holy Rosary. He instilled the importance of hard work, family and faith to his children and to his grandchildren. Joe also had a love for animals. He enjoyed feeding his squirrels, rabbits, and birds on his property along with working in the garden. He loved taking the time to watch the trains coming through by his house and count the coal cars while sitting in his lawn chair. Joe enjoyed playing the lottery, especially Powerball, Lotto and Mega Million. He was blessed with family and friends and treasured family gatherings and the opportunity to visit with folks at Walmart and H-E-B.
His legacy lives on through his five children: James Kallus and wife Vickie of Oswgo, Kan., Richard Kallus and wife Merri of Deer Park, Cindy Zatopek and husband David of La Grange, Gary Kallus and wife Jodi of Baytown, and Anna Mc-Kinley and husband Bob of Canyon Lake; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita; one son, Jerry Kallus; one great grandchild, Meagan McLean; and three siblings: Johnnie Kallus, Bernice Rychlik and George Kallus.
A Holy Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of La Grange. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the funeral mass, a reception was held in the parish hall with lunch provided. A private graveside service will be held in Houston at a later date.
