Hrbacek
Amos (A.J.) Hrbacek, the surviving twin born to Ed and Bessie (Bordovsky) Hrbacek on March 31, 1941, worked his farm, planting and baling hay and checking his cattle, until he died Aug. 1, 2024, at age 83. Every day he spoke to his neighbors at the farm, and every morning his cats knew he would pet them and feed them home-cooked food.
A.J. graduated from La Grange High School in 1959 and married Rosie Poncik Nov. 19, 1966. He enlisted in the National Guard for six years.
He worked for 35 years as a professional electrician for IBEW 716 Local in Houston.
He always enjoyed and had time for a game of pool and dominoes with family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his uncles, Alfred and Emil Hrbacek and Joseph Bordovsky, and his aunts, Evelyn Shoppa, Ivy Divin, Ludmilla Vasek, Vlasta Fisher, and Agnes Mika.
Survivors are Rosie, his wife of 58 years, and his first cousins, Mike Shoppa, James Divin, David Hrbacek, Dennis Hrbacek, Dean Hrbacek, Shirley (Shoppa) Schaeffer, Barbara (Divin) Cook, Mary Jane (Vasek) Darnell, and Virginia (Mika) Leech.
Pallbearers serving in A.J.’s honor are Mike Shoppa, Edward Boettcher, Leonard Boettcher, Franklin Mozisek, James Divin, and Barry Vasek.
Visitation with the family is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home at 208 W. Pearl in La Grange. Recitation of the Rosary follows at 7 p.m. The chapel will open at 1 p.m. for early visitation.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Chris Smith at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Sacred Heart Church on 539 E. Pearl Street in La Grange. The burial at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Hostyn will follow the Funeral Mass.
Reception location will be announced.
