At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he met the love of his life, Sharon Elaine Hillman, who was also in the Army. It was love at first sight and they married in California on Aug. 17, 1977. Together they raised a daughter, Julie, and a son, Brad, along with two grandchildren: Joshua Neville and MacKayla Griffin.

Henry made the Army his career and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
