She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 14, 1957 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester by Rev. Walter Streicher. Her confirmation verse was 1 Corinthians 6:20.

She retired in 1994 after 32 years of service. She was a devoted servant to both her church and community that included serving on the Mission and Park Boards, LWML President for 30 years, singing in the choir for over 50 years and teaching Sunday School. Mirlyn loved music and especially enjoyed Jimmie’s guitar playing and singing. They traveled together to many country music sites throughout the U.S. Mirlyn was affectionately nicknamed “Moo Moo” by one of her nieces and in recent years the nickname stuck. She loved babysitting “her babies” and spent hours entertaining and playing with them. All throughout her life, she enjoyed music, flowers, and traveling.
