Robert Lee “Bob” Field, Sr., 88, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022. Bob was born in Anniston, Ala. on Sept. 14, 1933, the son of Robert Lee Field and Lucille (Perkins) Field.
On June 14, 1955, Bob married the love of his life, Rae Robson Cupples in Shreveport, LA. They were married 58 years until her death on Nov. 27, 2013. They raised two children, a son, and a daughter. Together Bob and Rae lived a joyful life, of which animals and philanthropy played an important role.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he continued his love of flying, having been a pilot since his teenage years. He was honorably discharged in 1963 with the rank of Captain but remained in the Air Force Reserves. He continued to fly often, owning his own plane, and maintaining his private pilot’s license into his 80s.
A longtime executive in the financial industry, Bob worked as an Employee Benefits Consultant with Connecticut General Life and with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. He later served as Vice-President of Distributions for AIM Management Group.
After moving to Fayette County from Houston, Bob was particularly passionate about health and education. He was a founding director of St. Mark’s Medical Center, the founder and first president of Tejas Health Care, a co-founder of Second Chance Emporium and a trustee of the James Dick Foundation (Festival Hill). He loved God and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Grange.
He is survived by his son, Robert Lee Field, Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Lyn Robson Mc-Cormick and husband, Andy of Easton, Md.; sister, Alida Given and husband, William of Magnolia Springs, Ala.; grandchildren, Edward Brenton McCormick and wife, Kristyn Wink; Daniel James McCormick and wife, Marissa Pisarick; Charles Robson McCormick; Andrew Robert McCormick; Robert Lee Field, IV and fiancée, Melanie McCarron; Elizabeth Ann Field, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Winchester City Cemetery, 8315 FM 153, La Grange.
