Dennis Ann (Denny) (Wheeler) Fahrenthold, 82, of Bastrop, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.

Denny was born in Austin on Jan. 17, 1940, the daughter of the late Frankie (Gist) Peterson and Joseph Weldon Wheeler.

She grew up in Austin and attended high school at Austin High and graduated in 1958. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, a Masters Degree in business from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. and was certified as a medical technologist from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi.

Denny married Paul Fahrenthold on June 20, 1960 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Austin. Together they raised two sons, Ben and Michael, and a daughter, Margaret. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As a working mother, she began her career as a medical technologist and then as Chief Financial Officer of the family business, Fahrenthold and Associates, where she worked for over 25 years.

Denny had a heart of gold and lived her life wanting to help others. While Denny and Paul lived in La Grange, she volunteered at St. Mark’s Medical Center and was a longtime member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she volunteered her time as director of the scholarship committee. She was also a member of Frisch Auf and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had an adventurous spirit and was always able and willing to take an unexpected trip, traveling the U.S. and abroad. She had an appreciation for the outdoors and spent time on her family’s wheat farm and in the mountains of New Mexico.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; sons, Ben Fahrenthold and wife, Debbie and Michael Fahrenthold and wife, Miriam, all of Bastrop; daughter, Margaret Fahrenthold Fish and husband Matthew of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Joseph Gist Wheeler of Austin; along with her six grandchildren Nikki, Alexander, Dominic, Vincent, Miles, and Wyatt, nephew, Pastor Timothy Fahrenthold of Mason; along with a host of dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange on, Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. Her husband, Paul, sons, Ben and Michael, and daughter, Margaret, will host a reception at the Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club immediately after the celebration.
