Eguizabal
Carmelino Eguizabal peacefully passed away with his wife and kids at his hospital bedside after a 17 year battle with Congestive Heart Failure on Jan. 15, 2025. He was 74 years old.
Carmelino was born in Santa Rita, Guatemala. His humble beginnings formed the integrity with which he carried himself throughout every circumstance and adventure he tackled. In 1970, Carmelino immigrated to the United States of America where he attended college and played soccer. He met his wife, Debra, during school where they became engaged and later married. After having their first child, they moved to Northern Indiana where they set up a home and life to welcome a second child. Rolling Prairie, Ind. was the place Carmelino settled to raise his family and build his career.
Carmelino wore many hats during the decades in Northern Indiana. He coached soccer, softball, and baseball for many teams and schools. He was a kicker’s coach for several players at New Prairie High School. One of his fondest adventures was serving as a translator for yachting competitors during the 1987 Pan American Games. He was proud of the many years he worked in manufacturing management and supervision for large aerospace and automotive corporations.
Carmelino officially retired in 2008 when he then moved to Texas to be close to his children and grandchildren. He and his wife settled in La Grange in 2011 where they conquered one of his greatest dreams of building a home on top of a hill. On that hill, he created memories and spent many hours of labor and love cultivating a yard he was proud to maintain. One of his favorite activities was mowing and trimming the plants and trees. Carmelino was a trusted neighbor and friend always willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear.
Carmelino is survived by his favorite wife of 51 years, Debra, as well as his favorite daughter (favorite son-inlaw), Joanne (Alan) Herda, favorite son (favorite daughter- in-law) Derick (Kim) Eguizabal, his favorite grandson Luke Herda, his favorite oldest granddaughter Gabrielle Eguizabal, and favorite youngest granddaughter Kayleigh Eguizabal. He is also survived by his twin brother, older brother, and three sisters and his many loved nieces and nephews.
Carmelino was a family man and the strength and bond of his family was extremely important to him. He always said he came from humble beginnings and always strived to remain humble without fanfare. Therefore, the family will hold a private ceremony at a later date to lay him to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Carmelino Eguizabal.
Our love for you will never die.
