Diers
Kenneth Wilbert Diers, known affectionately to all as Ken, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 14, 2024, in Austin, at the age of 75.
Born on Dec. 3, 1948, in La Grange, to his parents, Wilbert Henry Diers and Myrtle E. (Kleiber) Diers. He leaves behind his wife, Linda Diers, of 24 years; his brother, Gary W. Diers of La Grange; his Canadian family, Grace Castaneda, Manuel Castaneda, and his grandson Adrian Castaneda. He also leaves behind his faithful Golden Retriever, Amazing “Mazi” Rose; and numerous cousins and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Wilbert and Myrtle Diers; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frankie and Callie Burke; his brotherin- law, Wayland Burke; his nephew, Garrett W. Diers; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Ken’s early years in the close-knit community shaped the kind, funny, and generous man he would become. A proud 1967 graduate of La Grange High School, Ken carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life. He went on to further his education at Sam Houston State University, where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Ken married the love of his life, Linda Diers, in 2000. Their marriage was one of mutual love and respect. They truly were soulmates.
Ken’s professional life was as remarkable as his personal one. He began his career in the maritime industry, where his keen eye and expertise as a Marine Surveyor quickly set him apart. In 1983, he founded Diers & Associates, Inc., a company that not only became a testament to his professional legacy but also a platform for him to foster countless friendships and mentorships over the years. Ken’s passion for his work was evident to all who knew him, and even after selling his company in 2017, he remained actively involved, ensuring a seamless transition and the continued success of the business he so loved.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ken was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing dominoes, a game that allowed him to indulge in friendly competition and camaraderie. Fishing was another pastime Ken enjoyed with his friends, and sometimes catching fish. He also enjoyed going to the deer camp. Ken enjoyed his long lunches at The Stables, Fuads, and Luling City BBQ with his colleagues and friends.
Those who knew Ken will remember him for the laughter he brought into their lives and the unwavering support he provided. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often went out of his way to help others without expecting anything in return.
Ken’s legacy is one marked by the love he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the positive impact he had on every life he touched. His departure leaves behind a void that will be felt by many, but the memories he created will continue to warm the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Kenneth Wilbert Diers, we celebrate a life well-lived. His spirit, characterized by kindness, humor, and generosity, will forever be remembered and cherished. Ken’s journey through life was a testament to the enduring power of friendship.
