Derrick
Rebecca Jane Derrick, 78, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother of La Grange went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and friends.
Born on Aug. 26, 194 7, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the only child of the late Horice and Betty McMullen and grew up in Marengo, Ohio. After graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, but the oil field and life changed her path. God led her to meet and marry David Derrick and stood by him for 39 years from Michigan to Houston in 1997.
After a short time in Houston, the couple bought property just south of La Grange and started raising cattle. She designed the home she was so proud of and worked side by side with David completing the home. She had the gift for cooking and baking which she used to bless her family and friends with her goodies. She always had a contagious smile and always lit up the room she was in. Her kind spirit brought immense joy to everyone around her. She found her greatest happiness in helping others and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Marlisha Darst of Massillon, Ohio and Amanda Taylor of Fayetteville, N.C; five grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her final wish was to be cremated and scattered under the century old live oak trees around the home.
A celebration of life will be held at the Stray Gathing Cowboy Church in Muldoon on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice-Austin, the building fund of Stray Gathering Cowboy Church, her home church, or the charity of one’s choosing in her honor.
Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit and love remain with us always. We find comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us every day.
