In Loving Memory of Linda Rombs Davis (September 12, 1950 - July 10, 2023)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Rombs Davis, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Linda left this world on July 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories.
Linda was born on Sept. 12, 1950, in Baytown. She grew up in a house built by her father and had many fond memories of working at Johnny and Jack’s, the family market. Hers was a happy childhood, surrounded by many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who gathered regularly for deer hunts and poker nights. Linda had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Linda spent many years as a military wife, moving her family from base to base following the career of her husband Larry Davis, a drummer with the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Despite the frequent moves, Linda was passionate about pursuing her education and graduated from Texas Women’s University in 1985 with a BSN in Nursing.
Linda had a devotion for helping others and dedicated her life to her nursing career. She initially worked as a trauma nurse at Ben Taub hospital in Houston but craved a closer patient connection. She found great joy in long term care nursing, eventually becoming Director of Nursing at several long term care facilities including Monument Hill in La Grange.
In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and watching MSNBC at top volume. Her cornbread dressing was legendary, and her family will never be able to get the recipe exactly right at any future Thanksgiving. On her final Saturday night, she spent her evening making a case of peach jam which will be treasured.
She is survived by her children, Marc Davis and wife Allyson of La Grange and Tina Straus and husband Stephen of Austin; her grandchildren, Shawn Davis, Steven Davis, Megan Davis, and Ryan Davis of La Grange and Alex Cazares, Sophie Cazares, Charlotte Straus and Andi Straus of Austin; her siblings, Cathy Schroeder and Daniece Peck; and a wide circle of family and friends who will cherish her memory.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Jack and LaRue Rombs; son, Michael Davis; husband, Larry Davis, and brother, Frank Spicer, who undoubtedly had the dominos and poker chips ready.
Linda Rombs Davis will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved her.
