Carrico
A prayer service for Jacqueline “Jackie” Carrico, 74 of Nechanitz, was held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waldeck with Rev. David Tinker officiating.
Jacqueline Sue (Head) Carrico was born on Feb. 28, 1949 in Rockford, Ill., one of five children born to Davy and Lois (Riddle) Head. She was baptized and confirmed at a young age at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Rockford. She graduated from Harlem High School in Rockford. Jackie was united in marriage to Donnie Ray Carrico on March 8, 1969 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Rockford. While living in Illinois, she worked in retail sales at JC Penney and Montgomery Wards.
After moving to Texas in April of 1981, Jackie worked as a waitress at Walhalla, a clerk at several convenience stores and retired from Brookshire Brothers in Giddings.
She was an active member of Waldeck Lutheran Church served as an officer of the Memorial Guild, attended the women’s bible study and volunteered with the food pantry. She spent many hours researching family genealogy and served as the official family photographer taking hundreds, if not thousands, of photos throughout the years. Jackie loved telling stories and enjoyed playing cards, reading books, working jigsaw puzzles, and bowling, having bowled in several women’s bowling leagues.
Jackie passed away the morning of Monday, May 15, 2023, surrounded by her family, at her home in Nechanitz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Davy and Lois Head; one brother and three sisters.
Jackie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donnie Carrico of Nechanitz; her two children, Bruce Carrico and his wife, Rashel of Nechanitz and Rhonda Smith and her husband, Lance of Swiss Alp; five grandchildren, Shelby Kessel and his wife, Rosie of Waldeck, Austin Carrico of Nechanitz, Bruce Carrico II of Nechanitz, Alissa Smith and her friend, Cody Nerada of San Antonio, and Kenley Smith of Swiss Alp, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Waldeck Lutheran Church, 6915 Waldeck Church Lane, Ledbetter, Texas 78946, Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 North Jefferson Street, La Grange, Texas 78945 or to the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
