Melba Lou (Johnson) Bohuslav, 86, formerly of La Grange, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023.

Melba, also known to friends as Lou, was born near Carthage on Feb. 4, 1937, the daughter of Bernice (Nail) and Edgar Johnson.

She met the love of her life and married Benjamin Bohuslav on Feb. 11, 1984, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston.

Lou was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hostyn. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, homemaker and gardener. Melba was a talented painter, and among her many works of art for friends and family, she painted the 13th hole at Augusta for her husband, a gift that he cherishes. She was a devoted wife and mother and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She was also a loyal friend, a good neighbor and generous benefactor.

Lou is survived by her husband, Benjamin Bohuslav; daughter, Sarah Michelle Smith of Houston; sons, Lane West Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Hollis David Smith and wife, Debbie of Colville, Wash.; stepchildren, Steven Bohuslav and wife, Connie of Austin, and Sarah Heidaker and husband, Paul of Fulshear; grandchildren, Carly Brown and husband, Tony of Houston, Hannah Ford of Tomball, Emma Blumentritt and husband, Eric of Houston; step-grandchildren, Curtis Bohuslav and wife, Sarah of Austin, Blake Bohuslav and wife Nicole ofAustin, Cole Heidaker and wife Lindsay of Katy, and Cade Heidaker of Katy; great-grandchildren Benjamin Brown, Liam Brown, Andrew Karels, and Margaret and Catherine Blumentritt; stepgreat grandchildren, Kinley Bohuslav, Taylor Bohuslav, and Brooks Bohuslav; brother, Joe Dan Johnson of Beaumont, and nephews, Kevin Johnson of Houston and Jeffrey Johnson of Beaumont.

Visitation was held at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl in La Grange, at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Memorial Service will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Felix Twumasi officiating.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Forest Park, Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, TX 77023.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 936 FM 2436, Hostyn, TX 78945 or to a charity of one’s choice.
