Berg William Kenneth “Ken” Berg, peacefully passed on Dec. 22, 2024, in La Grange. Born on June 13, 1944, in Houston, to Gilman and Florence Berg, he was a steadfast presence in the lives of those he touched, embodying the virtues of love and wisdom throughout his 80 years.

Ken’s early life in Houston was filled with adventures with his childhood-turned-lifelong friends. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1962 and went on to earn a degree from The University of Texas in 1966, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Marked by a pioneering spirit, Ken began his career at Dempsey-Tegeler, then launched a successful real estate development firm, W.K. Berg & Associates. A lifelong entrepreneur, he later founded an environmental engineering and consulting firm, Berg Oliver Associates.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ken was a man of diverse interests and talents. An accomplished pilot, he soared above the clouds with the same grace and precision that he navigated the challenges of life. After retiring to his country property in La Grange and tending to his land on his beloved tractor, he found contentment in his workshop or “fixing” things around the house, a testament to his practical and resourceful nature. The only thing that got him back in the house was cheering on the Texas Longhorns.

A reflection of the adventurous spirit that he himself embodied, Ken enjoyed studying astronomy, searching for arrowheads, cross country road trips, a good Western novel, a warm Shipley’s donut, a great round of golf, and his loyal dogs.

Family was the cornerstone of Ken’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianna, and their children and spouses: Amy and Manuel Delgado, Lisa and Michael Kinzel, Jenny and Roy Moore, Bonnie Robertson and Joseph Robertson. His legacy continues through the lives of his nine cherished grandchildren, each of whom he adored with all his heart. Ken’s role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather was his most treasured accomplishment, and the memories created with his family Ken’s life was one of quiet leadership and gentle guidance, inspiring those around him to strive for their best while maintaining humility and kindness. We celebrate the life of a man who was the epitome of love and known for his wit and wisdom. His presence in our lives was a gift— one that will continue to guide and inspire us.

Ken’s life will celebrated during a Memorial Service to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at St. James Episcopal Church in La Grange, where he was Senior Warden and a faithful member. (156 North Monroe, La Grange Texas). Following the service, all are invited to greet the family at a reception at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Endowment Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.
