Juanita Marie Craig Bambrick (“Nita”) lived to be 100 years old and blessed her family, friends, and everyone she met with her beauty, wisdom, charisma, warmth, and loving spirit. She was born in Pine Island, La. on Nov. 21, 1923, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2024.

Nita met her football “beau,” Tom Bambrick, at Louisiana State Normal (now Northwestern State University) and courageously eloped a few months before he left for the war within the same year. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State Normal, and with determination, earned her master’s degree from Our Lady of the Lake. Nita worked for seven years in the business world and taught school in Louisiana, Houston, La Grange, and San Marcos until her retirement in 1982, teaching at Southwest Texas (now Texas State University).

Nita was a joyful sacrificial servant, a dedicated teacher, and a strong woman of God who had a true zest for life. Involved and active are an understatement to describe her. Nita was an avid golfer and traveled around the country with Tom in their RV to play new courses. She was a “Silver Fox” bowler, fished with her family, loved shopping, playing bridge, traveling throughout the US and abroad, attended an American Idol concert at the age of 87 and was emailing and texting until the age of 94. Nita loved her family and friends and honored them all through her selfless acts of service. Nita’s true spiritual gift was helping (1 Corinthians 12:28). She delivered meals to those in need, helped organize Twice Blessed Consignment, drove patients for cancer treatments, prayed for countless individuals with the help of her prayer warriors, volunteered at the Methodist church, supported her friends and her family with a listening ear, and attending every sport and activity she could. She was on the Board of Directors for the Hays County Teachers Credit Union and the Golden Age Nursing Home. She was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame for making a difference for the city of San Marcos. If asking her what she would want to be celebrated or remembered for, she would say her faith and love for the Lord. Nita has left a legacy of Godliness to her children, her grandchildren, and generations to come.

Nita was preceded in death by her husband Tom Bambrick, her father Doney Craig, mother Ina Craig, her sister Wilma Craig Caldwell and husband Bob, and her son-in-law BH Riefkohl. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie Riefkohl, son Tommy Bambrick and wife Klare, granddaughter Roxy Riefkohl Cook and husband Greg, grandson Matt Riefkohl, granddaughter Lily Riemer and husband Will, grandson Tyler Bambrick and wife Katherine, and her other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She has five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Hunter Riemer, Davis and Luke Bambrick and Clay Riefkohl.

Jesus loved our Nita. She replicated His love.
