Younger Voters Mostly Sat Out Primary Election Here

The majority of voters who cast ballots in the primary elections last week were over age 55, and the most of those were between 65 and 74 years old. In comparison, about 26.4 percent of the general population in Fayette County is over 65, according to the 2020 U.S.

Vacant Bealls in La Grange Will Become Regional Training Center

The old Bealls building at 215 Ellinger Rd, which has been vacant for two years has been sold and will become a training center for Education Service Center Region 13, which serves as a liaison between the Texas Education Agency and the local school districts. Region 13 encompasses 57 school districts, 24 charter schools, eight institutions of higher education, and 17 private schools. “We are excited to expand out to LG with a distance campus to offer educator training, student course offerings and even rentable space for the community,” said Rich Elsasser, Executive Director of Region 13. Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Celebrated at St. James Episcopal Preschool in La Grange

St. James Episcopal Preschool celebrated Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with a snack of green eggs and ham, a parking lot parade, and fun at Camp Reads-A-Lot. Students got to fish in the “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” pond, hang socks on a clothesline for “Fox in Socks,” and play in tents at Horton’s campground, all situated around a pretend campfire. Dr. Seuss’ books were the highlight of the annual Read Across America Day on March 2, 2022.

Ellinger Kids Compete in Livestock Judging Contest

The Karisch clan attended a livestock judging event at East Central High School near San Antonio on Saturday Feb. 26. Rheagan ended up eighth overall Junior and Rilan placed third in the Pee Wee division. They also brought home several species awards. Also participating in the judging contest were Brylee Brugger and Hayleigh Pizzatola of Ellinger.

CASA Community Continues to Grow

CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of (from left) Sandy Medina, Esther Tobias, Chris Leviton, Helen Taylor, Victor Diaz, Melissa Esquivel, Kay Goertz and Johnny Harrison as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) by Judge Benton Eskew on Feb. 22. Chris Leviton is a resident of Fayette County.

Fayette County Fair Association Accepting Scholarship Applicants

Youth and education are the primary objectives of the Fayette County Fair Association. In 2022 the Fair Association will again award 20 scholarships to seniors from five Fayette County High Schools which include Fayetteville, Flatonia, La Grange, Round Top-Carmine, and Schulenburg as well as those home schooled. These scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 each.
