COVID case numbers in Fayette County ticked up slightly in recent weeks. Between early March and the middle of May, daily new cases ranged from zero to three, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

On Saturday, June 11, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Gonzales was off-duty and traveled to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde for an honor ride he set up to honor the lives lost and to show support to the families suffering in the latest and senseless act of violence. Deputy Gonzales traveled via motorcycle in 105 degree temps to Uvalde as the President of the La Grange Chapter Reguladores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC). He was joined by a Travis County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher and one other independent rider. Deputy Gonzales and the other two riders put out stuffed animals among the mountain of flowers, cards and other stuffed animals. Deputy Gonzales and the other riders also met a parent of one of the children at the second memorial site set up on the square and expressed his most sincere condolences to him, his family, and the other families on behalf of the Fayette County community.

The Catholic Daughters of Queen of the Holy Rosary, Court No. 2282 of Hostyn, recently had their election of officers. KJZT Society No. 10 of Fayetteville presented a check to St. John’s Altar Society from proceeds of their recent bake sale. This donation was matched by the KJZT Family Life. KJZT Family Life is a Fraternal Benefit Society founded in 1894 by Czech catholic women which offers memberships to all Texans. The fraternal organization is committed to strengthening its members’ lives through Catholic faith and community service while offering financial security. We Care in Texas Inc. is a volunteer organization with 501(c)3 status helping pregnant women in Fayette County since 2021. The organization helps the women see that there are people who care about them and their unborn children. We Care partners with The Gabriel Project of the Crossroads in Victoria who has served pregnant women in 10 other counties for 20 years. We Care uses Christ centered mentoring approach to help pregnant women find needed community resources, baby articles, provide maternity and parenting education through online Bright Courses programs for Earn While You Learn. The organization demonstrates to them with guidance and support that they are not alone and God has a plan for them and their baby. We Care In Texas was one of 23 organizations that set up a display for advertising purposes at the Casino Hall in La Grange on Sunday, June 12 at the Volunteer Fair. The event turned out to be a great time to network and get your organization information out there. Fayette Savings Bank has set up two relief fund accounts to aid in the recovery from the tragic June 9 explosion and fire that destroyed the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Hostyn and seriously injured a parishioner.

Larry Lutringer of La Grange had taken numerous photos of The Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Hostyn over the years as he was a parishioner of the church. Those photos now take on added importance after the June 9 explosion that destroyed the beloved structure.

Cullen and Candis Klesel of Cistern have purchased Capitol Monument Company from Gonzales native Joe Solansky recently. The Klesels will continue operating the company as Capitol Monument and maintain all current employees. The business services most of central and South Central Texas including but not limited to Gonzales, Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca, Washington, Lee, Bastrop and Travis Counties. In addition to Capitol Monument in Gonzales, the Klesel family also purchased a Kingsville location operating as The Monument Place that services the south Texas Region.
