Fayette Saving Bank held a grand re-opening to showcase its newly expanded banking center in Schulenburg on Friday, June 3. The Schulenburg branch was built in 2013, and one half of the 3,280 square feet of space was leased out to a home health agency.

The Schulenburg City Council signed a proclamation Monday night, June 6, honoring former Schulenburg Coach Larry Tidwell for his long career in high school and college basketball. Tidwell spent eight years in Schulenburg in the late 1980s and early 1990s as high school athletic director.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Fayette County Deputies made several arrests following traffic stops over the weekend. On Friday, June 3 Deputy Jared Michalec stopped a vehicle on US 290 westbound near Hills Rd.

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation has called a Special Membership Meeting. It is scheduled for Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station, 208 West Main St., Ellinger. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct an election regarding the amendment to the by-laws. The amendments to the by-laws are standard amendments to corporation bylaws which are required by the Texas Water Development Board in connection with its financing with the Corporation. If the members vote to approve the election propositions, the Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will be able to participate in the financing with the Texas Water Development Board which includes both a loan and a principal forgiveness agreement. Members should have received correspondence in the mail explaining this matter and information about casting a ballot. Please note that members must vote by mail, hand delivery, or in person at the June 15 th meeting to participate in the election.

Faith Lutheran High School will hold their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 22. New this year will be “The Battle of The Brew,” a home brew competition. They will have their traditional German meal, domino tournament, cornhole tournament, music, kid’s games and lots of fun! Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this fun event.

The annual Crops Tour is an educational event for anyone who is interested in row crop production. The crop tour program will be held on Monday, June 27 at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange. Registration is from 8:30-9 a.m. and will conclude about noon followed by a catered chicken fried steak lunch.
