Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda is planning for their 150 year Anniversary Celebration in 2023. If you have any photos of church or Warda area activities, or items relating to the area; especially older photos, documents or programs please bring them by the church office. They will be scanned, so they can be shared at the Anniversary celebration. Animal Shelter Update

As of Sept. 9, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 995: 422 dogs and 573 cats in need. The shelter has 161 animals in care: 56 dogs/105 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner. The animal shelter continues to offer a discount voucher program for spay/neuter for citizens of Fayette County. Call (979) 966-0021 for more information.

Ellinger VFD Responds to Grass Fire

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department will drill on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The Ellinger VFD was dispatched to a grass fire on West Tobias at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. The burn ban has been lifted for Fayette County, but please be careful with burning.

Deputy Arrest Subject for Felony Possession

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday, Sept. 12 around 10:50 p.m. Deputy Duane Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle passenger car for a traffic violation on I-10 eastbound at the 674 mile marker near Schulenburg.

Cooking Well with Diabetes Class Begins October 6

Starting Thursday, Oct. 6, a healthy meal planning program called “Healthy Home Cooked Meals” will be offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County for three consecutive Thursdays ending on Oct. 20. The classes will be conducted from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104, La Grange. Join us in the kitchen and create healthy, home cooked meals. Learn how to make ordinary meals extraordinary for a healthy lifestyle. A special focus on nutritional behavior changes for individuals with diabetes will also be offered during the series. Hands-on activities in the kitchen, recipes, handouts, and food tasting will be included in each class. The series will include educational information on understanding carbohydrates, reducing sodium in foods, ways to increase fiber in your diet and celebrating holidays sensibly.

Head to The Compound for Hollywood & Handbags Purse Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy 10 games of bingo with designer purse prizes, a catered brunch, mimosas, silent auction and lots of fun.
