Groundwater GM to Speak to Commissioners at This Wednesday’s Meeting
David Van Dresar, general manager of the Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District, will speak at the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 23.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. County Judge Joe Weber has raised concerns in recent months about the effects of rural residential development on groundwater resources in the County.
“It’s going to be an interesting Commissioners Court meeting because I have a lot of questions for him about the growth coming in here and some of our water policies,” Weber said at a meeting last week.
The County government has little authority under state law to regulate groundwater. That authority lies with the Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District, a separate governmental entity with taxing power and a publicly-elected board of directors.
Weber requested the use of the District Courtroom in case a large crowd shows up.
