The Lincoln & Continental Owner’s Club (LCOC) will be coming to La Grange for the 2nd time to celebrate the 33rd Annual all Texas Regional Spring meet on April 21-23. A Little History The national Lincoln & Continental Owner’s Club (LCOC) was formed in 1953 by former Ford Motor Company employees and enthusiasts in Michigan, to recognize and preserve the historically classic 1940-1948 Continentals.

National Bank and Trust hosted the kindergarten class from La Grange Elementary as part of the bank’s Penny Pinchers program on Tuesday, March 28. Staff from the bank taught the students about deposits and savings. The students learned about the difference between wants and needs from the loan department (pictured right). Pictured below, NBT’s Sandy Hooper explained how the bank’s board of directors makes decisions about loans. The students also got to peek inside the bank’s vault.

M The historic Pin Oak Cemetery Association will be meeting for its bi-annual clean up; pot luck and business meeting will be held on Saturday, April 15 beginning at 9 a.m. Everyone is asked to bring along their mowers, trimmers and yard tools to help maintain this historic cemetery.

W At the April meeting of the Winchester Area Civic Association meeting, it was decided to hold a community Farmer’s Market to be held on the grounds of Zilss Hall the first Saturday of the month beginning on May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Bishop Brendan Cahill of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria announced new priestly assignments at the Chrism Mass in Victoria last week. Several of the assignments will affect local parishes.

This week we celebrate the unsung heroes of our county’s police departments who wrangle a plethora of escaped, abandoned, injured, and deceased critters of our communities – Animal Control Officers (ACOs). Whether responding to a call for service related to loose cattle on the highway, a pet parakeet taking refuge in a truck cab at Walmart, or a sick wild cottontail bunny on a city lawn, ACOs take it all in stride. In their daily duties, they encounter bees, snakes, horses, raccoons, hogs, deer, and every other type of animal, domesticated and wild, in Fayette County.
