If you’re wrestling with how to write a segment of your family story or a chapter in your own life, join local writer and storyteller Elaine Thomas for a First Friday at the Archives program on Friday, June 2 from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives on the second floor of the Fayette Public Library in La Grange.

Come meet your old friends and make new ones at the annual Serbin Picnic at the Serbin Picnic Grounds on FM 2239 on Sunday, May 28. The English Worship Service begins at 8:30 a.m. conducted by Pastor John Schmidt. Barbecue beef, pork, and chicken will be sold by the pound beginning at 9 a.m. The Ladies Aid will be selling potato salad, beans, noodles and pastries. The Ladies Aid will also be holding a bake sale. The Youth Leage hamburger stand will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Activities include the Shiner Clippers at Serbin baseball game at 2 p.m., School Children’s Program at 2 p.m., booths and games at 2 p.m., barrel train rides at 2:30 p.m., and washer pitching tournament at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment will be from 3 to 8 p.m. by the Czech Melody Masters. The Texas Wendish Heritage Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After four years of study and competition, La Grange High School senior, Anna Eichler, won a medal at the UILAcademics News Writing event at the University of Austin last Wednesday, May 17th. “My main goal was just to place at regionals, as I was just an alternate last year and placed 6th my sophomore year.

Rotten Awning on the Square Draws Attention

A rotten awning on the building at 235 W. Travis in La Grange is about to fall to the ground. The awning got a lot of attention last week after an insurance agent who works next door posted a picture of it on Facebook.

Czech History Celebrated

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange held its annual Slavnost May Fest on Sunday, May 21. The event celebrates Czech culture and the Czech immigrants who settled in Texas.

New LG Government Takes Oath

La Grange City Councilman Quenten Gonzalez officially resigned his seat representing Ward 4 at the City Council meeting on Monday, May 22. His resignation became effective Thursday, May 25.
