Elaine Thomas to Host First Friday at The Archives June 2
If you’re wrestling with how to write a segment of your family story or a chapter in your own life, join local writer and storyteller Elaine Thomas for a First Friday at the Archives program on Friday, June 2 from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives on the second floor of the Fayette Public Library in La Grange.
What’s Your Story? is a fun, hands-on session designed to help participants jumpstart their creative voices to capture a family or personal memory.
“We all have important stories to share but where’s a good place to start?” Thomas said. “We’ll talk about that. I hope you will leave this session with more clarity on where to head with your family or personal story.”
There is no cost for this program. However, please preregister by Tuesday, May 30, for the June 2 session because space is limited. RSVP to archives@ cityoflg.com or for more information, call (979) 968-3765 and ask for the archives staff. You are invited to join the June session even if you did not attend the First Friday in the Archives program on May 5.
Part two of What’s Your Story? is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 7.
An award-winning local author, Elaine Thomas published her family’s story in Promises to Keep and has written several hundred fascinating local stories for The Fayette County Record. Elaine compiled many of them in her Veterans’ Voices and Homefront Memories book and Stories I’ve Been Told series. Other memories appear on Elaine’s website blog. First Friday at the Archives at the Fayette Public Library in La Grange kicked off last month with a program by Elaine Thomas on interviewing tips and techniques for family historians (above). On June 2, participants will delve into suggestions on sharing one or more of their family or personal stories.
