La Grange’s Mary Lee Mewis turned 107 Sunday. But Fayette County’s oldest living person didn’t have a party that day.

Fayette County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to sign a proclamation recognizing the week of Oct. 1-7 as National 4-H Week in Fayette County. The Court also heard an annual report from the Fayette County 4-H Council.

A pedestrian from the Austin area suffered serious injuries after getting hit by a car on US 290 in Carmine Tuesday night, Sept. 19. The wreck happened around 9:15 p.m. about a third of a mile southwest of Trailer Park Rd.

An SUV struck a tractor that was trying to cross FM 609 on Wednesday, Sept. 20, resulting in serious injuries to both drivers.

As of Sept. 15, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1,251: 596 dogs and 655 cats in need. As of Sept. 15, the shelter has 141 animals in care: 62 dogs/79 cats.
