A Look at State and National Races on Our Local Ballots

State and National Reps Draw Opponents

Primary elections take place on March 5, and Fayette County voters will help decide several contested federal and state races.

Eight candidates will appear on the Republican Presidential ballot: Ryan L. Binkley, Chris Christie, Ron Desantis, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, Vivek Ramaswamy, David Stuckenberg and Donald Trump.

Democratic voters will pick between nine candidates for President: incumbent Joe Biden, Gabriel A. Cornejo, Star Locke, Frankie Lozada, Armando “Mando” Perez-Serrato, Dean Phillips, Cenk Uygur and Marianne Williamson.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has two opponents running against him in the Republican primary: Holland “Redd” Gibson and R. E. “Rufus” Lopez.

Ten candidates filed for Cruz’s seat in the Democratic primary: Colin Allred, Aaron Arguijo, Meri Gomez, Mark Gonzalez, Roland Gutierrez, A. “Robert” Hassan, Steven J. Keough, Heli Rodriguez Prilliman, Carl Oscar Sherman and Thierry Tchenko.

There will be contested races on both the Republican and Democratic ballots for U.S. Representative District 10, which covers Fayette County. Incumbent Michael McCaul faces Jared Lovelace in the Republican primary. Theresa Boisseau and Keith McPhail will face each other in the Democratic primary.

Freshman State Rep. Stan Kitzman of Pattison represents District 85 in the State House, which includes Fayette County. He drew an opponent in this year’s Republican primary: Tim Greeson of Sealy. No Democrats filed to run for the District 85 seat.
