The Fayette County Commissioners Court met Wednesday, Dec. 6, to select and prioritize several projects for the County’s $4.8 million grant application to the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Regional Mitigation Program.

Shelter Update

As of Dec. 1, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1508: 696 dogs and 812 cats in need. As of Dec. 1, the shelter has 82 animals in care: 37 dogs/45 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

The shelter offers a discount voucher program to the citizens of Fayette County for the spay/neuter of family pets. Call (979) 966-0021 for more information.

Lexington Hospital Executive Involved in Kick-Back Scheme

Former hospital executive Peggy Borgfeld of Lexington and physicians Linh Nguyen, M.D., and Thuy Nguyen, M.D., of Dallas, and Heriberto Salinas, M.D., of Cleburne have agreed to pay a total of $880,199 to resolve False Claims Act allegations involving illegal remuneration in violation of the Anti-Kickback Statute. The parties also have agreed to cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigations of and litigation against other participants in the alleged schemes.
