Colorado Valley Communications and Fayette Electric Cooperative will host their seventh annual document shred day for members on Friday, Oct. 4 in conjunction with National Cooperative Month. The free document shredding will be available from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Fayette Electric Cooperative’s old headquarters location at 357 N. Washington St. in La Grange, and from 12:152:15 p.m. at Colorado Valley Communications located at 4915 South US Hwy. 77, La Grange. Barbequed Buzzard Starts Fire

A buzzard sparked a brush fire on the Bluff Friday afternoon. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got the call a little after 3 p.m. on Sept. 27. Workers at Frisch Auf called in the fire after seeing smoke on top of a hill behind the swimming pool. Firefighters arrived and found a smoldering dead buzzard at the base of an electric pole on top of the hill.

Roast Beef Dinner Oct. 13 Benefits St. John-Ellinger

St. John Lutheran in Ellinger is selling raffle tickets now in conjunction with their annual roast beef dinner. The dinner will be on Sunday, Oct. 13. Raffle tickets $20 for one ticket, $50 for three, and only 1,000 tickets are sold. There are 40 great prizes on the ticket. The drawing will be immediately after the drive through dinner.

Animal Shelter Update

As of Sept. 14, the total intake for 2024 for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1232: 542 dogs and 690 cats in need. As of Sept. 14, the shelter has 105 animals in care: 39 dogs/66 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Giddings Man Arrested For Evading Arrest

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sept. 18, at approximately 1:50 p.m. Deputy Jared Michalec was dispatched to a residence on Zilss Rd. in the Winchester area in regards to a subject breaking windows on a residence that he was Criminally Trespassed from previously.
