The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will host a free screening of the acclaimed documentary “For the Record” on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Lyric Theater (120 E. South Main Street, Flatonia). The event includes a post-screening panel discussion with local newspaper editors and publishers about the future of community journalism. “For the Record” offers an intimate 35-minute look inside The Canadian Record, a century-old newspaper serving Canadian, a Texas panhandle town about the size of Schulenburg. The documentary chronicles how this family-owned, small-town publication confronted growing economic challenges and a rapidly changing media environment before ultimately deciding to cease printing.

The fourth annual “A Night at the Theater” Gala will be held again at Windy Knoll near Round Top on Saturday, Feb. 8. The gala benefits the Fayetteville Community Center & Performance Theater project, where Phase I consists of rebuilding the historic E.J. Knesek Building on Fayetteville’s Town Square. With Phase I nearing completion, the fundraising focus has shifted to Phase II, a 150seat, state-of-the-art theater attached to the rebuilt Knesek Building.

The Round Top Family Library’s 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 had a tremendous turnout with over 794 attendees, of which approximately 125 were children under 12. This annual event, which has become a beloved community tradition, raised vital funds to support the library’s operations and its extensive programs for all ages.

The Fayette County chapter of the Texas Retired Teacher Association met Jan. 13 at New Life Methodist Church in La Grange with 23 members in attendance.
