Taylor Area Could See 10,000 New Jobs from Samsung

The Fayette County Record Wharton Journal-SpectatorWharton County Judge Phillip Spenrath gave commissioners an update on the proposed budget and even with an anticipated increase of $1.6 million in revenue, the budget was$170,000 in the hole. Rockdale ReporterState records show that Samsung Austin Semiconductor wants to add nine more fabrication plants at its Taylor site, creating up to 10,000 jobs and a nearly $185 billion investmentin the region.

Barton Honored by Texas Press Association for 50 Years in the Newspaper Industry

Nonnie Barton’s half-century in the newspaper business was celebrated in a special way Friday. Barton, a co-owner of The Fayette County Record and a book keeper for the newspaper for the past 46 years, was honored with The Golden 50 award Friday at the Texas Press Association’s state convention in San Marcos.

Christmas Village Idea Nixed in Favor of Homesites

Folks concerned about the plans for a Christmas market and resort near Carmine can breathe a little easier. Back in February, California developer Dirk Winter came to the Fayette County Commissioners Court with plans to develop a 100-duplex Christmas market and resort on a 150-acre property along Fuchs Rd.

Leopard Band Already Back to Work

The La Grange Mighty Leopard Band held its first week of full band rehearsal, running July 25 through 29. Each day ran from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and consisted of full ensemble rehearsals outside in the morning when it was cooler, sectionals inside in the afternoon, and full ensemble rehearsals inside at the end of the day.

Schulenburg Gas Stations Continue To Have the Cheapest Fuel Around

The gas war in Schulenburg shows no sign of subsiding as competition for cheap gas enters its fourth week. Hostilities broke out over the July 4th holiday weekend when the new Texan convenience store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10.
