Judge Jamie Moreau gave a very interesting presentation to the La Grange Noon Lions Club about her role as Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace including; determining cause and manner of death, the science of forensic anthropology, and her role as a small town Judge. Jamie is passionate about helping families when loosing a loved one by making the process as smooth as possible. She explained the balance of ordering an autopsy vs. using medical history and medical professionals with direct knowledge about the deceased. She is careful when requiring an autopsy as that cost is incurred by the county. She shared how TSU has the largest research facility to research human remains – The Freeman Ranch, also known as a body farm which analyzes recent body remains. They provide training for Justices of the Peace, police, firefighters, and cadaver dogs. Information on the whole body donation process was also provided. The gift of one’s body is a generous donation and is a very valuable resource for education and scientific research. If you’d like any more information about the research facility or body donation feel free to contact Judge Moreau.
