CASA of Bastrop Appoints Advocates

CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of (pictured from left) Michelle Lockhart, Carole Richards, Sharlene Brown, Paula Luther, and Chris Contreras as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) by Judge Benton Eskew on Nov. 1. Paula Luther and Chris Contreras reside in Fayette County. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA Volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by Judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interest in the child protection system. LG Woman Appointed to Workforce Board of Directors

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA), the facilitator of workforce development services for the nine-county Rural Capital Area of Central Texas, is pleased to announce the appointment of six new community and industry leaders to its Board of Directors. WSRCA’s new Board members include: Sam Dowdy, President of S & D Plumbing in Taylor, who represents Williamson County, Susan Kimball, President of the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce, who represents Hays County, Laura Krcmar, Vice President of Learning and Development with First National Bank of Bastrop, represents Bastrop County, Doug Mudd, Executive Director of Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas, represents Hays County, Deokie Ramlochan, Director of Corporate Services with AlgEternal Technologies, represents Fayette County, and Hatch Smith, Chief Executive Officer and Administrator with Mid-Coast Central Medical Center, represents Llano County.

AMEN Serves Over 200 Families During October

The AMEN Food Pantry served 294 families for the month of October for a total of 849 individuals. A total of 142 volunteers for 367 hours served the pantry. A total of 5,181 pounds of food was received as donations.

As always, the array of merchandise was dazzling, so I was sorely tempted, but rather than hauling home the following items that caught my eye, I settled for taking their photos.

Keeping it Spicy for 50 Years

Thousands of visitors flocked to the 50th annual Flatonia Czhilispiel this past weekend. Organizers reported 267 teams competed in the famous “Czhili” cook-off, which started with six teams in 1973 as a fundraiser to help bring a resident doctor to the town.
