The number of coronavirus cases in Fayette County continued to climb last week.

What the senior Class of 2020 has lacked in actual school events this spring, they’ve made up for in socially distant attention. From the regularly changed marquee at the Lyric Theater in downtown Flatonia (lower left) highlighting different seniors, to the big banner placed on the courthouse lawn Friday in La Grange showing all the Leopard seniors, people in the Fayette County have done their best to show this year’s seniors that even if they can’t be congratulated in person (because of the coronavirus precautions) they are not forgotten.

At Thursday’s Fayette County commissioners court meeting, Fayette County EMS Director Sharn Muzny gave her last monthly report to the Commissioners. Muzny recently accepted a job as director of operations and safety at La Grange ISD.

Fayetteville High School has announced its top graduates from the Class of 2020.

Schulenburg native and international businessman Carman Kobza donated nearly 50,000 face masks to first responders, nursing homes and other agencies that need them throughout Fayette County and the surrounding area last week.

At a meeting Monday by teleconference, Round Top council members decided to go forward with plans for the annual July 4th celebration and parade as well as the town’s sesquicentennial birthday event on August 1 pending further developments with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cal-Maine Foods confirmed this week that nine of its employees in the Flatonia area have contracted coronavirus.
