Muzny Advocates For Mieth to Take Over County EMS
At Thursday’s Fayette County commissioners court meeting, Fayette County EMS Director Sharn Muzny gave her last monthly report to the Commissioners. Muzny recently accepted a job as director of operations and safety at La Grange ISD.
“We’re going to miss you and we appreciate everything you’ve done for us,” County Judge Joe Weber said.
Weber said he has spoken with county judges in neighboring counties, “and they’re envious of our EMS.”
“You won’t be going away, you’ll be in the area and we have that relationship, and Malissa (Mieth) is ready to stand up and keep us going as we work through this transition,” Weber said.
Mieth currently serves as assistant EMD Director.
“Malissa has been our assistant director for six years now,” Muzny said. “She has been trained on everything with EMS, and she has all the certifications that are needed to seamlessly take over, which is what I recommend,” Muzny said.
Pipeline Deal
In other business at Thursday’s meeting, Commissioners approved a routing agreement, road use bond agreement, and pipeline boring permit from Aspen Midstream for a pipeline project in northern Fayette County. Work on that job stopped last month after the county sent a cease and desist letter to the company for working without county permission. County permitting official Clint Sternadel said Aspen Midstream finally filed the paperwork and paid all fines and fees. Commissioners approved items at Thursday’s meeting, allowing work to resume on the pipeline.
Commissioners also unanimously approved pay increases for election day workers. Before the general election each year, the Fayette County Elections Office hires dozens of people to staff the polls around the county. Elections Administrator Terri Hefner said most of those people consider the one-day-a-year job as part of their civic duty. However, she said the job involves a long day of work. Commissioners voted to raise the wages for election workers to the amounts authorised by the Texas Secretary of State: $12 an hour for presiding judges, $11.50 an hour for associate judges and $10 an hour for election clerks.
Fireworks
In a special meeting held Thursday afternoon, Commissioners signed an order authorizing the sale of fireworks during the Memorial Day holiday. Sales may begin May 20 and must end at midnight on May 25.
