Hostyn KJT Society No. 3 was excited to make a monetary presentation to the Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Hostyn. The society qualified for the KJT Home Office $500 Covid Relief Grant for both the Society and their home Parish. The grant will assist with hardships the virus has inflicted on the parish and society. The Society qualified because of their efforts to continue their society functions with all the Covid precautions in place. Receiving the donation on behalf of the Parish was Pastor Fr. Fayette County Judge Joe Weber the County Commissioners signed a proclamation last Thursday, May 13, designating May as Elder Abuse Prevention Awareness Month in Fayette County. The proclamation stated that in-home caseworkers with Texas Adult Protective Services (APS) investigated 42 cases of elder abuse, neglect or exploitation in Fayette County last year. Fayette County Veterans Service Officer Jackie Wessels will retire from the County after 15 years of service. For the last 11 years, she has served as the veterans service officer. The job entails advocating in claims filed by veterans or their widows or children and submitted to the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. Jesse Lednicky will be the new Fayette County Veterans Service Officer. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies captured a man who allegedly tried killing a woman by setting her on fire in Hallettsville. According to a report from the Hallettsville Police Department, officers received a call around 8:40 p.m.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court voted 4-1 Thursday to approve a 10-year property tax abatement agreement with Perdue Farms for a plant expansion in Schulenburg. Perdue owns and operates a pet treat manufacturing plant located at 1315 Russek St.

Kyle Guenther shared this photo of a round bale hay ring stuck in a tree by high winds in the Middle Creek area of Southern Fayette County last Tuesday where tornadoes were sighted. Guenther said one barn was also destroyed there and windows busted out in several locations.
