Two drivers escaped serious injury in a wreck at the dangerous intersection of SH 159 and SH 71 Bypass in La Grange Monday, March 6.

The wreck happened around 2:40 p.m. According to a report from La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, 74-year-old Linda Fritsch Robbins was driving a tan 2016 Honda Accord west on the Bypass feeder road. Gilbreath said Robbins stopped at the intersection stop sign. However she proceeded across and failed to yield the right of way to a pickup headed into town on SH 159.

The pickup, a white 2019 Dodge Ran, was driven by Talour Pilsner. Pilsner tried avoiding the crash but the two vehicles collided in the intersection. Both vehicles came to rest on the Bypass feeder road facing west in front of Texas One Stop.

Neither of the drivers required medical treatment. Both vehicles sustained serious damage and were towed from the scene. Wrecks frequently occur at the intersection of the Bypass and SH 159. Traffic on SH 159 is protected only by stop signs on the Bypass feeder road. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) informed the City of La Grange two years ago that it plans to install traffic signals at the intersection. Interim City Manager Frank Menefee said TxDOT informed him they would solicit bids for the project in August of this year with construction to follow, likely something next year.
