Wreck Caused by Ice in Engle

A truck towing a car slid off Interstate 10 and rolled over in icy conditions Monday morning, Jan. 15.

A report from Trooper Louis Gabler with the Texas Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 6:47 a.m. on Interstate 10 near the FM 2238 intersection in Engle.

A white 2024 International truck-chassis driven by 43-year-old Luis G. Fernandez Arguello of Little Elm was heading east on Interstate 10. The truck was towing a black 2002 Volkwagen Jetta.

Gabler’s report said the driver was traveling at an unsafe speed for the icy road conditions. The driver lost control of the rig, and it entered the center median. The truck rolled over the cable barrier before coming to rest.

Fernandez Arguello suffered non-incapacitating injuries in the rollover. Fayette County EMS transported him to Dell Seton South Austin for treatment. Both vehicles suffered rollover damages. Gabler issued the driver a citation for driving at an unsafe speed.

There were two other wrecks related to the ice on Monday morning in Fayette County. A vehicle rolled over on FM 1295 near Praha just north of the Lavaca County Line. There was also a crash on US 77 just north of the Lavaca County Line. DPS did not have reports available for those crashes as of press time on Wednesday. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported no major injuries associated with those two wrecks.
