Worker Caught With $1,000 in Stolen Cash

Schulenburg Police arrested an employee of Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant in Schulenburg for theft.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the management at Oakridge contact police on September 6 after noticing money missing.

Brenek said the restaurant management checked their surveillance video and discovered an employee taking cash from the business. Officers responded to the restaurant and watched the surveillance footage.

Officers questioned the suspect about the missing money.

Brenek said the suspect, 25-year-old Heather McClanahan of Moulton, admitted to taking the money and handed officers the cash she had in her pocket.

Brenek said McClanahan had more than $1,000 cash in her pocked, along with two illegal THC vapes.

Officers arrested Mc-Clanahan for possession of a controlled substance and Class A misdemeanor theft greater than or equal to $750 but less than $2,500.

Brenek told the Record on Friday that investigators were still trying to determine the exact amount of money that McClanahan allegedly stole.

Brenek said that Mc-Clanahan, at the time of her arrest, told her now former boss, “Maybe y’all should do background checks.”

Brenek said McClanahan indeed has a criminal history.
