Woman Saved from House Fire
Sgt. Ryan Meagher of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office rescued a woman from a house fire in Plum Wednesday night, Aug. 17.
La Grange Volunteer Fire Department received a call about the fire around 9:38 p.m. The caller said an elderly occupant was trapped inside the house, located at 1091 Plum Church Rd.. Meagher arrived on the scene before the firefighters got there, “She tried going out the back door, but she couldn’t get out because of the fire,” said Fire Chief Frank Menefee. “She went to the front door but had trouble opening it.”
Meagher forced the door open, grabbed the woman and brought her to safety. Fayette County EMS treated her for smoke inhalation, but she did not require hospital transport.
Menefee said the home was fully engulfed in flames when he arrived. A large travel trailer was parked near the house, and it, too, caught fire and burned. A small grass fire started as well.
La Grange VFD responded with six fire trucks and 13 personnel. Menefee called for assistance from Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department, who responded with an additional three fire trucks and five personnel. The home and the travel trailer burned to the ground. Menefee said the home was not insured. Firefighters extinguished the flames and left the scene around 12:39 a.m.
