Wild West Casino Night and Show Fund Meal Both Coming Up Soon in Carmine
The “Wild Wild West Casino Night” will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce. Dinner tables for 8 are available for $500. Individual tickets are $50. Contact (979) 451-1507 for choice of donation such as sponsoring a gaming table, donating items and gift certificates for gaming prizes, other costs, and to reserve a table. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
BBQ Pork Steak Meal
The Carmine Show Fund is sponsoring a BBQ Pork Steak meal on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with pick up at the Carmine Hall. It also includes buttered potatoes, baked beans, and sauce.
Tickets are $15 per plate and available from any show fund member.
New Times for Visitors’ Center Beginning in August, the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot will be open only on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Bingo for Seniors
Bingo for Seniors (60 and older, plus guests) is held at the Ledbetter Community Center on the second Sunday of the month. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks, and drinks are available for a freewill donation. This is a non-profit community event for entertainment. The next date is Aug. 13.
RT-C School News
Child Find – Development Screening for Preschool age children will be held on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Round Top-Carmine Elementary School in Round Top. Contact Kristi Hess at (979) 249-3200 for more information.
RT-C Elementary Back to School Night will be held on Aug. 10 at the Elementary School in Round Top. It will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for Pre-K through third grade, and these students may drop off supplies in the rooms.
Back to School Night for fourth through sixth graders begins at 6 p.m. with a parent meeting in the cafeteria. Their supplies should be kept bagged and labeled with the student’s name and they may be dropped off on the appropriate grade level table in the cafeteria.
R&R Shaved Ice will be available starting at 5 p.m. in the parking lot.
On Aug. 14, incoming seventh graders and new students will meet from 5-6 p.m. at the RT-C High School in Carmine. Returning eighth through twelfth graders will meet from 5:30-6 p.m.
Chromebooks, schedules, and parking will be issued Aug. 9, 11, and 15 at the High School with the time to be announced.
RT-C Beta Club received the National Beta School of Merit for 2022-2023.
The RT-C administrative offices will be open with their regular schedule beginning Aug. 7. Teachers will have a workday on Aug. 7 and 15. Inservice days are Aug. 8-11 and 14. Students return for classes on Aug. 16.
Named to Dean’s List
Janette Weidemann was named to the Dean’s List at Southwestern University in Georgetown in both the fall and spring semesters. She is a 2022 graduate of Round Top-Carmine High School where she was first in the class after the final calculation of GPA’s.
Condolences
Sympathy is extended to the family of Vera Mohr who passed away on June 17. She was a former resident of Carmine and owned Country Needlecrafts in the early 1980s, and then moved her shop to Brenham. She also played the organ for church at Bethlehem Lutheran in Round Top, gave piano lessons in her home, and helped with musical programs for Play Day at the RT-C Elementary School. A service was held on July 28 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton.

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department Drill night is Aug. 10 at 7 p.m.

Blood Drive
The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will have a Blood Drive on Aug. 27 at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. You can make an appointment by contacting Khardin@giveblood.org or by logging into your established digital donor account. It is in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.
Carmine/Round Top Bunco The Carmine/Round Top Bunco group met July 27 at JW’s Steakhouse. Marie Loewe won the most games. Darlene Etzel had the second most games. Darlene Etzel and Linda Levien tied for the most Buncos. Rene Zwernemann had the last Bunco of the night and Donna Mueller won the least games. Other players were Debra Eckert, Debbie Eckert, Lisa Mayer, Melba Zingelmann, and Leonita Sanders. It was hosted by Susan Bathe and Nancy Eilers School supplies were collected for Round Top-Carmine students.
MLLC News
The Women of the ELCA of Martin Luther Lutheran Church are collecting items for school kits to be sent to Lutheran World Relief. There are enough pencils. Needed are 70-count spiral notebooks, blunt scissors, 30-centimeter ruler with inches on one side, pencil sharpeners, ballpoint pens (no gel ink), 2½ inch erasers, and boxes of 16-24 crayons.
Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
RT-C Teacher Appreciation Breakfast is Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Rebekah Group meets Thursday at 2 p.m.
Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.
Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost is at 10 a.m. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.
Accepted are clean #1 and #2 plastic (please separate them and take note that #5 plastics are not accepted), dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.
The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
