Welding Ignites Fire Near Hostyn

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department extinguished a grass fire near Hostyn on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Firefighters received the call around 11:35 p.m. reporting a fire in the Stargate Subdivision off Kylesgate Ln., located off FM 2436 about a half mile northwest of the Hostyn Church. La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee was the first firefighter to arrive at the scene and discovered about an acre of grass on fire. Workers at the property were welding metal fence posts. Welding sparks ignited some dry grass. The fire quickly spread across the parched pasture.

La Grange VFD responded with six firefighters, two grass trucks and a tanker, along with Menefee’s command truck. They quickly extinguished the blaze.
