Weimar Library Hosting Dog Agility Program

Every dog has its day, and your dog’s day is Friday, July 21.

Be at the Weimar Public Library at 10 a.m. when the Friends of the Weimar Public Library will offer a free program on dog agility performance followed by tips for teaching your dog to follow your commands.

Michelle Stokes, national agility trainer and competitor and her dog, Texas, will demonstrate an actual agility competition presentation followed by tips on how you or your child can train your dog.

Stokes has been training dogs since she was 13 years old. A Weimar native, she started competing in dog agility at 19.

Over the years, Stokes has attended the American Kennel Club Agility Invitational three times, has qualified for AKC Agility Nationals 12 times, and has competed for the United States Agility World team tryouts, placing in the top ten percent.

Currently, Stokes competes with Texas, a borderpap, in UKI agility trials across the nation and is set to attend the national competition in Jacksonville, Florida later this year.

You and your child can learn to train your dog. It will take consistency and patience. By building a relationship with your dog, you and your child will learn these attributes, will get outside more, and will be more active, improving the physical health of the entire family.
