Video of Whataburger Fight Here Goes Viral

A fight inside the Schulenburg Whataburger early Saturday morning went viral on social media over the weekend.

Someone in the restaurant took a video while the fight was taking place. Later that day, the video appeared on the Grizzy’s Hood News Facebook page, a 1.4 million- follower account led by independent Houston street journalist Griselda “Grizzy” Castillo. Everyone involved left the restaurant before police arrived, according to Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek. Brenek said the people involved appear to be from Weimar, Eagle Lake and Houston, based on license plates that were seen leaving the restaurant.

The video shows some people trying to break up the fight, while others join in.

A few apparently uninvolved restaurant patrons have to get out of the way as the brawl bounces around the dining room.

“People are standing around, watching it, and sharing it on Facebook, but they don’t call police,” he said. “That’s our society.”

Later that day, Brenek said, a possible victim in the altercation called police to tell her side of the story.

“We had an individual call, but she didn’t really want to give any information,” Brenek said.

“We believe she was the victim, but when she found out we needed her information, she decided not to make a report.”
