The intersection of Hwy. 71 and Loop 220 in Plum was the scene of two crashes this week.

The first happened on Sunday, June 11, around 1:49 p.m. The La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got the call while they were checking on a carbon monoxide alarm at a home on FM 3233 near Cozy Corner. They found two vehicles on fire when they arrived in Plum. TexasDepartmentofPublic Safety investigated the crash, but a report was not available at press time. Witnesses said a car on Hwy. 71 struck a pickup truck that pulled out of Loop 220 onto the highway. There were no serious injuries reported.

Tuesday Rollover

Then on Tuesday, June 13, first responders received a call reporting a rollover on Hwy. 71 at Loop 220. The driver was pinned inside the vehicle. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department cut the door off the car and extracted the driver. Fayette County EMS responded as well.

“The paramedic crawled into the car that was resting on its roof and started stabilizing the patient with advanced life support measures while the La Grange VFD members on scene used extrication tools to get the vehicle opened up,” said EMS Director Josh Vandever. “Upon doing so, the team removed the patient from the vehicle and treated her on scene.”

A PHI helicopter based out of Columbus flew the driver to Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin for treatment.

“We do not have an update on the patient at this time,” Vandever said on Wednesday. “The combined efforts of the Fire Department and EMS teams on scene led to a safe and efficient rescue.”
