Two Races Decided by One-Vote Margins

Schulenburg ISD

Every vote counts, as two local elections proved on Saturday.

According to the unofficial tally, Arthur Bosque defeated Chris Jernigan for a seat representing Ward 4 on the La Grange City Council by a vote of 28 to 27.

It was the second time in a row that Bosque beat Jernigan by one vote for the seat on the Council. Last year, the two ran against each other in a special election for the Ward 4 seat, which, at the time, Jernigan held by appointment. The vote in 2022 was 51-50 in favor of Bosque.

“I think we made history,” Bosque said about the back-to-back close elections. “Thank you to whoever came out to vote. I really appreciate it. I’m ready to serve two more years.”

The election for Ward 4 was the only race on the ballot for voters in La Grange. There were no other contested races for city council or the La Grange ISD school board. Bosque said the turnout may have been higher if there were other races on the ballot.

“The voter turnout was poor, but it was just me and Chris on the ballot,” Bosque said.

Schulenburg ISD held a school board election on Saturday. Five candidates ran for three seats that were up for election on the school board.

Jarrod “Buck” Schramek, Troy Brenek and Hale Hentges won the election.

Hentges, the third place finisher, earned his seat in the school board by just one vote.

The unofficial results are listed below: Jarrod “Buck” Schramek (incumbent) 303 Troy Brenek 270 Hale Hentges 254 Andrew Rorschach 253 Daniel Deagan 218

Round Top

In the Round Top town council election, five people were running for three spots. Those three spots were won by Judith Vincent (49 votes), Jeanette Burger (35 votes), and Amy Bone (35 votes).

Among other challengers, Cameron LaPee got 25 votes and Karen Duddlesten had 17.

Flatonia

In Flatonia, four people were running for three at-large city council seats. Those seats were won by Ginny Sears (95 votes), Travis Seale (94 votes) and Donna Cockrell (81 votes).

The other challenger, Pamela Stolarski got 21 votes.
